Since 2010, Steve Berry has been collecting Doctor Who memories from people in the public eye. From comedians and actors to musicians and authors, all are united by their love for Doctor Who. Each of the contributors have written about something related to the programme; be it a favourite adventure, a pivotal moment when growing up or a memory from making the show itself. As Steve puts it himself, a collection of “heart-warming, entertaining or evocative memories”.Contributions include pieces from Who writers Terrance Dicks, Andrew Smith, Paul Cornell, Stephen Gallagher, Paul Magrs and Marc Platt, as well as actors Nicola Bryant, Hugh Bonneville, Shaun Dingwall and Nicholas Parsons.
The memories submitted so far include "the most devastating moment in Doctor Who history", "the very moment the seeds of fandom took hold" and "Final Score, Doctor Who, and the Cyberman-infested streets of London." Actor Jason Flemying promises to tell of "a secret his father shared with him about making the 1960s’ Dalek films."
Other contributors include a wealth of British comedy talent such as Mitch Benn, Charlie Brooker, Jeremy Dyson, Josie Long, Stephen Merchant, Al Murray, Chris Tarrant and Jonathan Ross. Also Roland Rat.
The project is driven by the desire to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, after the illness endured by Steve's late mother, Janet. ARUK funds research into finding a cure for dementia.
So far, ninety contributions have been collected and ten more are sought by the end of the year, before the book can head to publication.
